Rules & Regulations

General and Liabilities

1. Habitat for Humanity Singapore, hereby referred to as The Organizers, reserve the right to use photographs, motion pictures, recordings, or any other record of this walk and its participants for any legitimate purpose, including commercial advertising.

2. Bare Your Sole 2009 will be abbreviated as BYS09 where appropriate.

3. The Organizers reserve the right to add and amend the rules and regulations without prior notification.

4. The Organizers reserve the right to cancel or postpone the event without any prior notification.

5. There will be no fee refund if the event is cancelled for whatever reason, including wet weather.

6. Whilst every reasonable precaution will be taken by The Organizers to ensure participants' safety, The Organizers shall not be liable for any injury, loss and/or damage, whether personal or otherwise, and howsoever arising.

Registration and Payment

7. Forms and payments must reach the organizers by 8 April, 5pm, 2009. Onsite registration on day of walk will not be entertained.

8. Participants will receive an email acknowledgement within 7 days of registration. Participants are to contact The Organizers if they do not receive the acknowledgement by then.

9. Entry forms that are incomplete will not be accepted. The Organizers reserves the right to limit or reject incomplete entries without giving any reasons.

10. Applications will be processed only after receipt of full payment of registration fees.

11. Entries are to be made on Official Registration Forms (photocopies accepted) available online at www.habitat.org.sg/bys09 and at Singapore Management University Concourse Booth (SMU) on 16th to 20th March 11pm – 6pm.

12. The Organizers will not be responsible for any dispute arising from incomplete details given by participants.

13. The Organizers reserve the right to close registration before the said closing date
if participation reaches its capacity before the said date.

14. The Organizers reserve the right to limit and refuse entries.

15. Completion of the registration form signifies the participant's agreement to abide by the rules and regulations of Bare Your Sole 2009.

16. The Organizers reserve the right to contact and to interview participants for additional information required for matters relating to this event.

17. Once the registration has been duly processed, there will be no fee refund for those participants who are not taking part in the event. However, team member for team category can be replaced but the organizers must be notified of the change in the team member(s) before 8 April, 5pm, 2009.
18. All paying participants will receive a goodie bag each on the day of the event. Children below the age of 3 years will not receive a goodie bag.

19. Participants are required to produce their goodie bag ticket - GBT (to be given out with T-Shirt during collection) for the collection of the goodie bags.

20. One GBT can only redeem one goodie bag.

21. For team or family participation, a representative can collect the goodie bags on their behalf. The person must produce the GBTs.

Walk and Race Categories

22. Adults category

22.1. Participants above the age of 21 years are classified as adults unless
they are full-time students enrolled in a school.

23. Student category

23.1. Student category includes Primary, Secondary, Junior College, Polytechnics, Institute of Technical Education, University, and International school students. Participants above the age of 21 years must show proof of study during collection of T-shirt.

23.2. For participants below 21 years as on 6th June 2009, parental consent is required.

24. Family category

24.1. For those signing up for the family package, children must be between
the ages of 3 years and 20 years. The family must register as a family on the date of event.

24.2. For registrants of the family package, children below the age of 3 years may participate free of charge but they must be accompanied by their parents at all times.

25. Competitive & Team Competitive Category

25.1. There are 3 categories, men’s individual, women’s individual and team. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner up for men’s individual, women’s individual and team.

25.2. Competitors are required to attend a briefing and collect their Race Tag Number (RTN), 2 weeks before the walk. For team participation, at least ONE representative from each team must attend this briefing. Venue and date of briefing will be sent through email. Information will also be made available on http://www.habitat.org.sg/bys09

25.3. Competitors are advised to check that their personal particulars match their Race Tag Number (RTN) upon collection of their RTN. If transfer of RTN needs to be made to another person (another person is participating), an administrative charge of $10 will be levied. Changes must be made before registration closing date on 8 April 2009, 5pm.

25.4. No substitutions will be allowed on the day of event.

25.5. Competitors will be flagged off first. They will be allowed to run for the event.

25.6. Competitors must walk/run on the designated path for the entire route and observe traffic flow. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

25.7. There will be checkpoints (CP) along the route. All competitors must check in at these CPs. Failure to check in at these CPs will result in the disqualification of the competitors from the event.

25.8. No pets or any form of wheel-run objects of transport e.g. in-line skates, prams, push chairs, shoes with rollers, etc are allowed on the whole course. Support vehicles or pacers are not allowed.

25.9. Competitors must be present before the start of the walk. For team competitors, all team members must be present and start the walk together. Failure to report on time will result in disqualification.

25.10. If any team member wishes to withdraw during the event, he/she must first report to the nearest CP. Remaining team members cannot continue until the withdrawal of the team member has been reported. If for any reason that member need to leave the event urgently, they must notify the CP marshals immediately.

25.11. A participant who protests against another competitor or notifies of violation by a contestant must do so in writing to The Organisers within 30 minutes of his/her finishing time. A deposit of S$50 or equivalent must accompany the appropriate protest and will be refunded if the protest is successful.

25.12. The Organisers reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable (i.e. severe physical harm) of continuing the race.

Medical Attention and Emergencies

26. Participants requiring minor medical attention should walk to the designated First-Aid Points (FAPs).

27. If a participant becomes seriously injured and cannot be moved:

27.1. A person should stay with him or her
27.2. Call another person to ask for help at the nearest checkpoint (CP).
27.3. Call the emergency number

Walk Information

28. Participants above 3 years old must wear the BYS event T-Shirt to gain unpaid entry into Sentosa.

29. If for any reason a participant fails to don the event T-shirt, a entry ticket of $3 must be purchased separately to gain entry into Sentosa.

30. Participants must be at the designated start point 30 minutes before the start of the Walk.

31. Do not drop litter. Kindly use the waste bins along the route.

32. Participants are responsible for their own safety throughout the walk and agree to the indemnity conditions upon submission of registration.

33. The event will officially end 2 hours after commencement of the last race. Participants will than continue the walk at their own risk.
