Habitat for Humanity Singapore believes in her Christian mission to show love, and her social responsibility to neighbouring countries, especially those in the Asia Pacific region, and the world at large. As such, HFH Singapore aids in the rebuilding work of countries struck by calamities such as natural disasters by providing funds, manpower, and technical expertise. HFH Singapore works with Habitat for Humanity International and the global Habitat for Humanity community to achieve this end.
Volunteering
Depending on the work nature, Volunteers going for Disaster Response programmes may need to fulfil certain requirements, such as having prior building experience or technical expertise, before HFH Singapore will accept them into the team.
Post-Tsunami Disaster Response in Banda Aceh
In 2005, HFH Singapore sent teams to participate in a post-tsunami building project in Indonesia, Aceh. In 2008, about 1700 houses were built, made possible by a $14.3 million (SGD) donation from the Singapore Red Cross, and an additional $0.8 million (SGD) that was raised by HFH Singapore
Post Sichuech Earthquake Disaster Response in Chengdu, China
HFH Singapore
received support from Singapore Red Cross for reconstruction work in Chengdu, China, in support of HFH China. The total project scope is set at US$5 million, with a projected 800 house target. Habitat is working closely with the Chinese local government in this project.
Padang Earthquake Relief
HFH Singapore is one of the three recipients of Mediacorp TV's fundraiser show, October 19th 2009, for the Padang Indonesia Earthquake relief.
HFH Singapore is working with HFH Indonesia to provide housing for about 200 families there.
