We received a nice present at the beginning of this year.
A team consisting of 12 students from the Singapore Management University came back from their build trip in Mumbai, India, where they built 2 houses with the kind sponsorship of their friends, relatives and Keppel Land Limited. The team consisted of student leaders who are planning to set up Singapore's first university Habitat Campus chapter, and they have been active in participating in Habitat activities. Other than house-builds and cleaning houses in Singapore, they will want to encourage more students to support our cause, and raise more funds for our work.
The present came in the form of a very professionally produced video clip of their build-experience. This has got to be one of the best-produced Habitat video clip I have seen in a long time:
The video brought to mind the very reason for Habitat's existence, i.e. we bring people from all walks of life together and fight poverty-housing. And wonderful things happen when we do that, and the video attested clearly to this. After all these years, I still get emotionally over-whelmed by a video like that.
And the encouraging thing is that this is a group of very young people, right at the threshold of their adult lives. Isn't this a most appropriate way to start your life with, thinking and working towards making this world a little better for the billions of suffering masses out there? How I wish more young people could join us in this great endeavour. Indeed, how I wish every person, young or old, would make a resolution in 2012 to make a real difference in this world.
So what about you? Would you want to do more than just pass yet another uneventful 2012?
Let's start young, and let's start early.
Love, Joy Peace.
