Christianne Cheong: Habitat Singapore’s youngest fundraiser

Eight-year-old Christianne had an idea: she wanted to design her very own bookmarks to sell and raise funds for charity - in particular, for Habitat for Humanity.

In Christianne’s own words: “I was inspired by my friend who sold his paintings for charity. I can't make big paintings but I can draw, and bookmarks are useful. My mum read to me about a lot of charities, but I chose Habitat for Humanity Singapore because they help people all over the world. And everybody needs a good home!”

Her design inspiration came in two phases: the first was themed around Easter (pictured above) and her latest artwork depicted Habitat volunteers building houses, modelled after real-life photos of Global Village teams at build sites she saw on our website.

It is uplifting to see how even at the tender age of 8, children like Christianne can put their artistic talents to work and use their free time to raise funds to help the vulnerable in our society.  Christianne raised $60 by selling her bookmarks!

All of us at Habitat Singapore would like to say thank you to Christianne for helping to give people a healthier and more dignified home to live in.  Every dollar raised goes toward providing decent homes for vulnerable communities.

Christianne is an inspiration to us all!
