Building A Sense of Community with Hampton Pre-School

In October 2018, Hampton Pre-School (Tanjong Pagar) celebrated Children’s Day with the theme ‘Music, Art, Love’. Staff and children wanted to use this opportunity to spread love to the less fortunate by raising funds for Habitat for Humanity Singapore.

It was heartwarming to see how the children had put their artistic talents to work through their visual arts curriculum to collect an array of artwork including clay/wire sculptures, canvas paintings and collages. To raise funds, their art pieces were showcased and auctioned to the highest bidders, raising close to S$975!

Again, in April 2019, as part of their Earth Day celebrations, 80 children, aged 2 to 6 years old, and 13 staff and parents came together to help clean Singapore at two locations – East Coast Park and a playground in their local HDB estate. The children found all sorts of litter, including cigarette cartons & butts, plastic bags, and cans! In less than an hour, they had picked up 1Kg of litter in their playground!

We asked Ms Veron, Hampton’s Principal, what inspired them to choose Habitat for Humanity Singapore as their charity of choice. "It is our pleasure to be able to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity Singapore. Being a family-oriented preschool, we [in] its vision, to build not just houses, but homes. Our children, no matter their nationality, socio-economic background or race, deserve a safe and secure place to grow up in. Habitat for Humanity Singapore has … made this possible," she said.

What a lovely way to nurture a sense of responsibility and culture of respect for our shared environments! Thank you Hampton Pre-School for helping to keep Singapore clean and healthier for us all. We hope to see you again soon!
